What are mushroom extracts and why use them?

Instead of just dried and ground up mushrooms, we use dual extracted mushroom extracts. To do this the mushrooms are made into a tea that is then spray dried to form a powder. This drying method is the same that is used to make instant coffee! You can think of the extracts as instant functional mushroom tea! This results in an easily dissolvable powder packed with beneficial compounds such as beta-glucans without any sediment! It can take up to 15 pounds of mushrooms to make 1 pound of extract. Our extracts are tested for purity and potency to contain at least 30% beta-glucans.

How much of the functional ingredients is there?

We get this question a lot since Moonlight Matcha tastes like matcha! It doesn’t really have a “mushroom” taste, so when people hear it is a “mushroom matcha” they start to wonder if there is just not much mushrooms to go around. In reality at least a quarter of our blend comprises of functional Ingredients – mushrooms and adaptogens! In each 4g serving, you get 600mg of our high quality organic mushroom extract blend comprised of Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, Chaga and Reishi mushrooms, along with 200mg of organic ashwagandha extract. Finally, we have 200mg of Organic Inulin which is extracted in a similar way as the mushroom extracts but from the Mexican Agave plant. Inulin is known as a prebiotic, which can help digestion.

What does your mushroom matcha taste like?

If you like matcha then you will enjoy the taste of ours, plus enjoy the benefits of including functional mushrooms and adaptogens! Our matcha is a first harvest ceremonial grade matcha from Kyoto, Uji Japan. An area famous for their matcha production. Our producer has been operating their farm since 1827 and is one of only a handful in Japan to have a level ten tea master producing their blends. We put a lot of effort into sourcing the best matcha we could find and are extremely proud of our matcha partner. Taste is perceived differently from person to person but some tasting notes we have heard are: Cocoa, Roasted Chestnut, Honeydew Melon, Sweet Peas, Fresh Grass, Jasmine. – But in essence; it tastes like really good matcha… because it is.
