Nootropics and Adaptogens: just what exactly are they?
The term ‘nootropic’ applies to any substance, whether natural or synthetic, that has the ability to support learning, memory, and focus.
On the other hand, the term ‘adaptogen’ is used to describe anything that has the ability to help the body and mind adapt to stress and support the healthy functioning of various sytems in the body, such as immune, digestive, and nervous systems.
While they seem to be quite different, there are many, many herbs that satisfy both definitions. Rhodiola rosea is the ideal example, as it both helps the body deal with the insults of stress and toxins as well as supports healthy neurotransmitter synthesis and cognitive function.
